Silent Strike – No Rules Left…
We are off to Romania now to here a beautiful tune from the Bucharest producer – Silent Strike. Silent Strike (Ioan Titu) is a Romanian electronica music composer born in 1982. He’s released 5 albums (“Silent Strike” – 2005, “3AM” featuring Lucian Ban and Alex Harding – 2008, “alb”-2009, “Instrumentals”-2011) at LaStrada Music label and “Singularity”- 2012 at Jumping Jesus Records. He also plays live and has opened for various artists such as Faithless, Amon Tobin, Saul Williams and Bonobo to name but a few.
This particular tune called “No Rules Left” features stunningly delicate vocals from Britain’s Sukie Smith. Stuttered chords lay the foundation for this simplistic piece which never really gets going but instead floats dreamingly along in a kind of flux. Tinkers of delayed piano stabbing in and out somewhat randomly give the textures and layers needed. The beat is provided by a morse-code-like pulse that only faintly exists but is crucial to the overall sound and Sukie’s vocal is the string that holds all the pieces together.
The production in this piece is very subtle and something not easily achieved. The more I have listened to it the more the details shine through. The painstaking precision in which it has all been put together shows a master at work. The tune could have been released as an instrumental as it is strong enough on its own. However the vocals add a different dimension that makes the experience so much richer.
