Nuage – Unlock Down
Regular readers are likely to know all about Russian house producer Nuage, mainly because we cannot stop banging on about him. With good reason. A prolific creator of crisp, melodic electronica, usually set around a pulsing 4 x 4 beat, Nuage has the world at his feet and he continues to get better.
Unlock Down is part of the My Patience EP that was released on Electronica Records last month. Most striking are the vocals which appear to have been transposed downwards, giving them a slightly manic quality that contrasts with the smooth and bright melodic stabs that drive the tune.
As with all of Nuage’s music, the bass in Unlock Down is powerful and full of purpose, you can just imagine how this would go down in a club (or better still, at a beach party!). The beat is beautifully constructed. Not over-stated but full of groove thanks largely to a set of hats that sound like a spider trying to run away with a limp.
Unlock Down is a masterclass in combining uplifting with downbeat. Is this a summer tune or something to keep you warm through a long winter night? Probably both, exactly as it should be.
