BeatFoot – known in real life as Lukáš Ivančín – is one of a group of exceptional electronic producers carrying the torch for underground Czech music. We’re delighted to welcome him as our next ‘Five Minutes With’ interview victim. Read on to discover what inspires him to make music, the records he would take with him on a desert island and the advice that he would give to his younger self.
How would you describe the music that you make in one sentence?
All my tracks keep telling a story, that’s simply me 🙂 Considering specific genres, it is something between electronic, ambient, downtempo and house music. However, it is kinda difficult to describe it by words – you should listen to it if you wanna know 🙂
What are your three biggest non-musical influences?
My friends and my lovely girlfrend, travelling – in particular driving my car and that unique feeling while I can share my ideas and passion with others.
You can take five records with you on a desert island. Which ones?
Only 5 – seriously ? It is really difficult, but I would go for these gems 🙂
If you had to lose one of your senses, which one would it be and why?
If I had no option, probably the sense of smell.
What makes a perfect music venue/nightclub?
To me, good music is the most important – sound system, nice and smiling people, atmosphere and positive vibes.
What’s the best piece of music that you’ve ever made?
I must admit I am really critical to myself. Talking about my feelings, I would pick this…
If you could only say one word for the rest of your life, in any language, what would it be and what does it mean?
What advice would you give your ten-year-old self (musical or not)?
Keep doing what you like every day and do not bother with the rest of things. Make the best account of your time!
What is the strongest emotion for making music?
Love, sadness, expectation, joy.
If you were interviewing yourself, what other question would you ask (and what’s the answer?)?
What is the place where you feel the best? For me it is definitely the nature, especially in the forest under the trees surrounded by a spring smell in the air.
Can you describe what the local underground music scene is like in CZ?
The worst things for me are the smoke-filled spaces and a poor sound. I also miss more of nudisco and bass music in the local clubs since there is too much drum and bass and dubstep music in my opinion.
Can you recommend any local producers/musicians that we should check out?
Huge thanks to Lukáš for taking the time to answer his questions. Listen to more of his music on his Soundcloud page and read our previous article featuring the aforementioned Blind Walker.
