Uncovering the best underground music in Central and Eastern Europe
Praguebeats started out with a pair of British expat music obsessives throwing themselves into the discovery of Czech and Slovak underground music. Since then, we’ve interviewed some of the leading lights of the local music scene, launched our own podcast series showcasing incredible music from local artists and we’ve met some great people along the way.
Now we’re expanding our reach. In recent years there has been a revolution in the way people make music. Expensive studios have been replaced by cheap laptops and headphones as the weapon of choice for aspiring artists and the internet has changed the way music is distributed and heard. As we’re based in the heart of Europe, we’re hearing waves of incredible music flowing from Russia, the Balkans, the Baltic states and many more places as well as the former Czechoslovakia. We want to include it all, so from now on we’ll be focusing on the very best underground music from Central and Eastern Europe. If you make or hear something that you think we should feature, let us know!
We promise to only mention this once, but we make music too. James as Jean Blanc and Adam as Painter Child (while he’s not looking, I’ll add that Adam used to be the bassist in a band called Fell City Girl that were once compared to Radiohead, check them out!).
